Where was the DX actually heard?
A spot from another continent may be irrelevant for your own propagation path. That is why the tool keeps the DX location and the spotter location separate. You can, for example, show only spots reported by European stations while still working DX worldwide.
Not every cluster spot contains a clean mode.
The display first trusts explicit mode/submode data, then looks at the comment, known FT8/FT4 dial-frequency windows and finally the IARU-style band-plan area. Estimated modes receive a subtle ≈ marker instead of being presented as certain.
How the DX Cluster view works.
Does the page reload for new spots?
No. The spot feed is refreshed in the background. New rows are inserted into the current view and stay highlighted in green for about three minutes.
Why does a mode sometimes show ≈?
The upstream spot did not provide an unambiguous mode. The tool inferred it from the comment, a known digital-frequency window or the band plan. Unknown is preferred over inventing an overly specific mode.
What is the SSB sideband fallback?
When only phone/SSB can be inferred, the conventional amateur-radio fallback is LSB below 10 MHz and USB from 10 MHz upward. FT8/FT4 remain USB-based digital modes regardless of that voice convention.
Where do the spots come from?
The tool reads the public DA6IT/AFU-Tools DX spot feed at dxcluster.afu-tools.de/spots. Technical node/peer status deliberately stays in DX Dash and is not part of this operating view.
